The Mission District
To some, writing music in isolation may seem alienating and even stifling. Yet to Montreal five-piece the Mission District, the isolation of their practice loft in the industrial heart of Saint-Henri became a gradual catalyst to the songwriting process. With a cold winter and nothing to do, The Mission District became a band in late 2004 and the abandoned sector of Saint-Henri acted as a barrier from the rest of the world The Mission District deal with the human condition in their songs; which often exude a sense of loss and tragedy. ?I think a lot of our songs reflect in a way, the isolation and alienation that all human beings go through, and I guess our practice environment just re-enforced the feeling in our songs we are trying to convey,? says Rancourt. The Mission District?s songs tell the story of the human inability to deal with unfulfilled desires as well as the human obsession with happiness. From songs about and identity in All I Ever Wanted, to the story of sexual abuse in Winter Light, The Mission District deal with tragedy as a part of real life
